KCS - Unable to Remove a Permission From a User

Issue:

  • An administrator changes a user's Permissions to remove the Administrator, Accounts, Billing, and/or Reporting permissions, but the user still has these permissions.
  • Why can I see Billing/Accounting/Reporting tabs even when I shouldn't have permission to view them

Environment:

  • Clio Web App

Cause:

  1. When a permission is removed from a user, the permission will persist if they belong to a Group that has that permission.
  2. Permissions are set to "Firm (All Users)"

Resolution:

  1. Click on Settings
  2. Click on Groups, Permissions, and Job Titles
  3. Click on Permissions
  4. Find the permission you wish to remove in the Roles column
  5. Look for the user's name in the Group/User column
  6. If that user's name appears either:
    1. Remove that user from the Group that has that permission
    2. Remove that permission from the Group by unchecking the box next to that Group
    3. Remove that permission from the Firm by unchecking the box next to Firm (all Users)
