How to Export Data from CosmoLex

Please note that the success of any data migration depends primarily on the quality of the data set provided to us. Before attempting to migrate your information into Clio, you should ensure that your data is consistently formatted, well organized, sufficiently backed up, and stored securely. If you are not certain, it is recommended that you consult with your Clio representative before proceeding.



  1. Click on Contacts
  2. Click Address Book
  3. Click Export  above the list of Contacts
  4. The Export Grid will open
  5. Select Custom Export and select all pages (if left blank will only export the first page of the listing)
  6. Change Export Format to CSV
  7. Click Export


Follow the same steps as above for Contacts, clicking on Matters instead of Address Book in step 2. The below steps will generate a slightly different report that may not provide all of the information necessary for a complete migration.

Please Note: Client List is a different export than matters, ideally both should be exported

  1. Click Reports
  2. Choose Matter Activities > Client List
  3. Choose Print As: Excel
  4. Click Download

Activities (Time/Expense)

  1. Click Activities > Time/Expense
  2. Click Export  above the list of Activities (Time/Expense)
  3. The Export Grid will open
  4. Select Custom Export and pick the page range
  5. Select "Unbilled" from the options available
  6. Change Export Format to Excel (.xls)
  7. Click Export

Accounts Receivable

  1. Click Reports > Accounting (Matters) > Accounts Receivable
  2. Select All Dates unless otherwise requested/needed
  3. Once your filters are set, to preview the report, click the View button at the top right of the window
  4. In the Print As field select Excel(.xls)
  5. Click Download


  1. Click on Activities
  2. Click Calendar
  3. Click Details
  4. Click Export
  5. Select Custom Export and choose the pages you want to export as well as the format (CSV or Excel)
  6. Click Export

Matter Notes

  1. Click on Activities
  2. Click Notes
  3. Click Export
  4. Select Custom Export and choose the pages you want to export as well as the format (CSV or Excel)
  5. Click Export
