Disabling Billing for Matters

To disable billing for a particular Matter, go to the Matter card and click on the "Edit" button. Scroll down to the "Matter Billing" section of the Matter Edit form. Uncheck the box beside "This matter is billable" to make the file non-billable.  Once you do so, time and expenses can be entered on this matter and they will not show in the Billable Clients screen.

If you'd like to see a list of all matters that are billable or not, you have a few options:

  1. Go to https://app.clio.com/export for North American clients or  https://app.clio.eu/export for European clients, and generate a Matters export.  Then, you'll see a Billable column and it will indicate "True" if it is billable and "False" if it is not.
  2. Go to the Matters tab and click on the  "Filter" option.  Under "Billable" choose "No" and then you will be presented with a list of Matters that are designated Non-Billable:

A Matter that has been selected to be non-billable can still have a Quick Bill created for it individually. This ensures that, when working in the Billable Clients section, this Matter does not get mixed in with your regular monthly billings. More can be read in the Quick Bills Support Article.
