To help conform with Law Society guidelines, a conflict of interest check can be carried out via the Global Search Field, before taking on a new Client. You will then be able to verify that this action has been performed by including a Custom Field in the Matter.

The global search field in Clio enables you to search throughout your entire firm. This can be a huge asset when conflict searching.
Confirming the Conflict Check
In the previous example, we would not be taking on the Client since our search revealed a conflict. Had our search come up clear, we would then enter the Client and Matter into our system.
First, we'll need to create a Custom Field to verify that the Conflict Check has been performed:
- Click on the Settings tab on the left side column
- Find ‘Custom Fields’ in the first column:
- Click ‘Add’ at the top-right corner of the page, in the Matter Custom Fields > Individual Custom Fields section:
- In the 'Name' field type in 'Conflict Check Performed.' Select 'Checkbox' for the Type, and check the boxes to make this field Default and Required. With these options selected, you will not be able to save a Matter, without first checking this box.
Once this Custom Field has been created, it will appear when entering new Matters. You must check to the box to confirm that a conflict check has been carried out before you can create the new Matter.
