Please note that the success of any data migration depends primarily on the quality of the data set provided to us. Before attempting to migrate your information into Clio, you should ensure that your data is consistently formatted, well organized, sufficiently backed up, and stored securely. If you are not certain, it is recommended that you consult with your Clio representative before proceeding.

Procedure:

Request a backup of the TrialWorks database from the firm.

Alternatively the following steps can be used to Export Contact and Matter Information

Exporting Contacts:

  1. Click on Reports in the menu bar
  2. Select Report Writer Button to open the Custom Report Export Window
  3. Click Edit Queries…
  4. In the Query/Filter Name put a name such as “Clio Export Contacts”
  5. Select "Contacts Table" for the TableName 
  6. Add a new row for each field you want to include in the report:
    1. Select the FieldName that you would like included in the export
    2. Select 'SHOW' for the Condition
  7. Click the Exit button
  8. In the Export Format, select Excel
  9. Click Export
  10. The report will open automatically in Excel
  11. Save the file

Exporting Clients:

  1. Click on Reports in the menu bar
  2. Select Report Writer Button to open the Custom Report Export Window
  3. Click Edit Queries…
  4. In the Query/Filter Name put a name such as “Clio Export Clients”
  5. Select "Clients Table" for the TableName 
  6. Add a new row for each field you want to include in the report:
    1. Select the FieldName that you would like included in the export
    2. Select 'SHOW' for the Condition
  7. Click the Exit button
  8. In the Export Format, select Excel
  9. Click Export
  10. The report will open automatically in Excel
  11. Save the file

Exporting Matters:

  1. Click on Reports in the menu bar
  2. Select Report Writer Button to open the Custom Report Export Window
  3. Click Edit Queries…
  4. In the Query/Filter Name put a name such as “Clio Export Matters”
  5. Select "Matters Table" for the TableName 
  6. Add a new row for each field you want to include in the report:

    2. Select 'SHOW' for the Condition
  7. Click the Exit button
  8. In the Export Format, select Excel
  9. Click Export
  10. The report will open automatically in Excel
  11. Save the file
