KCS - What Happens When I Try to Pay a Bill With a Foreign Credit Card or From Another Country?

Objective:

  • What happens when you try to use Clio Payments in situations involving foreign cards, or while being in other countries?
  • Pay Invoice via Clio Payments while travelling
  • Billing Clients from other nations

Environment:

  • Clio Web App
  • LawPay

Additional Information:

To set up Clio Payments to accept credit card payment from another country they can reach out to LawPay who can enable international payments on a country by country basis.

Note that:

  • The rate for such international charges are higher than normal LawPay rates
  • Not all countries are supported at this time

Answer:

  • When a client has an American credit card, and pays while not in the USA by default LawPay will reject the charge.
  • When a client does not have an American credit card, and pays while IN the USA LawPay will always accept this charge.
  • When a client does not have an American credit card, and pays while not in the USA by default LawPay will reject the charge.
