Answer:

The Amount column is made up of the "Subtotal" section of the Bill (DOES NOT include Payments, Credit Notes, Taxes and Bill wide Discounts-it does include line item discounts)

The Balance column is made up of the "Balance Owing" section of the Bill (includes Payments, Credit Notes, Taxes and Bill wide Discounts)
