Improvements to the Invoice Payments Report

We've made updates to this report to generate much faster than before, and to more accurately reflect how you've told us you use it to manage your businesses.

What's Changed?

1. Faster Generation

For most users, this report will now generate much faster so you can get on with using the results to do your work.

2. Updates to how partial bills payments are allocated to bill line items.

A partial payment occurs when a payment is recorded for only a portion of a bill's outstanding balance. Previously, this report would allocate these payments to the oldest bill line items first. Now, this report will allocate partial payments proportionally (aka pro rata) over all lines on the bill, which is consistent with how Clio's other popular reports like the Revenue Report or Fee Allocation Report also work.

For example, here is the difference you can expect to see for a $500 bill with a $250 payment:

"Oldest First" Allocation (Legacy Invoice Payments Report):

Bill Line Items (oldest to newest) Bill Amounts ($) Paid Amounts ($) Paid Status
Time Entry 1 100 100 Paid
Flat Fee 1 100 100 Paid
Expense 1 60 50 Partially Paid
Expense 2 200 0 Unpaid
Expense 3 10 0 Unpaid
Time Entry 2 30 0 Unpaid
Total 500 250 Partially Paid

"Proportional" Allocation (New Invoice Payments Report):

Bill Line Items
(oldest to newest)
Bill Amount ($) Paid Amount ($) Paid Status
Time Entry 1 100 50 Partially Paid
Flat Fee 1 100 50 Partially Paid
Expense 1 60 30 Partially Paid
Expense 2 200 100 Partially Paid
Expense 3 10 5 Partially Paid
Time Entry 2 30 15 Partially Paid
Total 500 250 Partially Paid

3. Other minor improvements

We've added full support to this report for partially paid multi-matter bills, refunds from Clio Payments, and made a few other small formatting updates.
