What is the Difference Between Clio Payments and LawPay Credit Card Processing Fees?

2.8% on Credit and Debit card transactions processed through Clio Payments and $2 per eCheck transaction. Failed payments will not incur a processing fee.

All processing fees will be taken from the user's primary operating account. Processing fees are never taken from the Trust/IOLTA/retainer account.

 

For LawPay:

Additional Information:

  • Processing Fees will only be applied to payments that are approved
  • If you sign up using the LawPay Integration, the cost of your LawPay subscription ($20 monthly administrative fee) is absorbed into your Clio Subscription.
  • Transaction Fees get charged by LawPay once a month
  • Specialty cards include any brand (Visa Rewards, Corporate Mastercard, Business Discover)
  • Credit Card refunds will not be charged the processing Fees again but they will also not negate the initial charges
  • The LawPay Integration also passes along any card network fees/card pass-through fees as well

The processing fees for the LawPay Integration are as follows:

In the United States:

  • 1.95% + 20¢ per transaction on all major credit cards (Visa, MC, Discover)
  • 2.95% + 20¢ per transaction on Specialty cards (corporate, business, and reward of any type Visa, MC, Discover included)
  • 3.5% + 20¢ per transaction on an American Express card 

In Canada:

  • 2.95% + 20¢ per transaction on Visa, MC, Amex and specialty cards (corporate, business, and reward of any type Visa, MC, Discover included)
