How Do I Populate My Trial Account with Test Data?

Objective:

  • How do I populate my trial account? 
  • I want to work with data on my trial account
  • I want test data on my trial account
  • I want fake information to work with on my trial account
  • I want to play around with fake data on my trial account
  • I want test information to work with on my trial account
  • I want to play around with test data on my trial account

Environment:

  • Clio Manage

Additional Information:

  • The spreadsheets below are only meant to be used for trial purposes and not an actual Clio account

Procedure:

  1. Download the following spreadsheets:

Import Contacts

  1. Go to https://app.clio.com/imports(NA) or https://app.goclio.eu/imports (EU)
  2. Click Add
  3. Click the Import drop-down menu
  4. Select Contacts from Outlook CSV for the import

  5. Click Choose File and locate the Contacts Sample Data file from its location on your computer
  6. Click Upload File

Import Matters

  1. Go to https://app.clio.com/imports(NA) or https://app.goclio.eu/imports (EU)
  2. Click Add
  3. Click the Import drop-down menu
  4. Select Matters from CSV for the Import

  5. Update the Matter Sample Data file according to your use case
    1. If all Matters should be unassigned:
      1. No changes to the sample data file are necessary
      2. Back in the Import form, leave the Responsible Attorney drop-down menu on its default value: No Responsible Attorney
    2. If all Matters should be assigned to the same Attorney:
      1. No changes to the sample data file are necessary
      2. Back in the Import form:
        1. Click the Responsible Attorney drop-down menu
        2. Select the Attorney who should be responsible for all Matters in the file
    3. If you need the Matters to be assigned to different Attorneys:
      1. Get the full names of the Attorneys who should be assigned the Matters
      2. Open the Matter Sample Data file in a CSV editor of your choice
      3. In the responsible_attorney column, enter the name of the Attorney who should be responsible for that Matter, leaving any row blank will result in that Matter being unassigned

      4. Back in the Import form, leave the Responsible Attorney drop-down menu on its default value: No Responsible Attorney
  6. Click Choose File and locate the Matters Sample Data file from its location on your computer
  7. Click Upload File

Import Time & Expenses

  1. Go to https://app.clio.com/imports (NA) or https://app.goclio.eu/imports (EU)
  2. Click Add
  3. Click the Import drop-down menu
  4. Select Activities from CSV for the Import

  5. Update the Sample Data files according to your use case
    1. If all Time and Expense Activities can belong to the same User:
      1. No changes to the sample data file are necessary
      2. Back in the Import form:
        1. Click the User drop-down menu
        2. Select the User who should own all Activities in the file (leaving it blank or selecting Me will assign them to the currently logged in user)
    2. If you need the Time and Expense Activities to belong to different Users:
      1. Get the full names of the Users who should own the Activities
      2. Open the Time Entry Sample Data file in a CSV editor of your choice
      3. In the activity_user column, enter the names of the Users who should own that Activity, leaving any blank will result in that Activity being owned by the currently logged in user

      4. Back in the Import form, leave the User drop-down menu on its default value (blank/no value selected)
  6. Click Choose File and locate the Time Entry Sample Data file from its location on your computer
  7. Click Upload File
  8. Repeat this section for the Expense Sample Data file
