Clio has implemented new features for firms to track internal communications and build out a client’s case with accurate communication records and time capture.

New Communications Page Experience

The new "Communications" page provides a hub for logged email and phone calls, as well as secure messages.

  1. New buttons for Secure Messaging and Communication logging - Quick and easy access to create new communications
  2. Enhanced clarity - Quickly switch between browsing your messages or all messages on Matters you have access to
  3. Add Time - We've increased the visual clarity into on Communications that have corresponding Time Entries
  4. Filters - We've added the ability to filter Communications by Matter and made the keyword search more readily available

Phone and Email Logs

In addition to using the Communications areas of Clio, phone and email logs can now be added from any page in Clio via the the header.

Adding Phone and Email Logs from the Header

Click the "Add" menu in the header from any page in Clio then select the appropriate option:

  • Add phone log
  • Add email log
  • Send secure message

If you are working in Clio and are about to speak on the phone with a client, you can use the new phone log window to easily document the time spent, as well as the content of the communication.

  1. Click the blue "Add" button at the top of the screen
  2. Select "Add phone log" to open the "Add phone log" window
  3. Enter in the relevant Matter and Contact
  4. Start a Timer using the timer button right in the window

When the call concludes, you can fill in the "Subject" and "Body" fields of the window to document the content of the call. Then click "Save" to create both a Communication log and a Time Entry simultaneously.

Adding Phone and Email Logs from the Communications Page

To add a phone or email log from the Communications page (or Communications subtab of a Matter or Client), you'll use one of the blue buttons on the top right corner of the page just below the header.

To add an email log from the Communications page:

  1. Click "Add email log" to display the "Add email log" window
  2. Fill in the relevant fields (Note: if you are in the subtab of a Matter, the "Matter" field will be filled in automatically)
  3. Click "Save email log"

Note: If you are using Office 365 with Outlook, or Gmail in Google Chrome, you can use one of our email integrations to easily log email communication into Clio.

Secure Messages

Secure Messages can be viewed on the "Communications" page in the "Secure Messages" section.

Secure Messages can now be sent from both the Communications page (and the Communications subtab for Matters and Clients), and from the header.

Sending Secure Messages from the Header

Now, you can send Secure Messages from anywhere in the app. Simply use the "Add" button at the top of the screen.

To send a Secure Message from the header:

  1. Click the blue "Add" button at the top of the screen
  2. Click "Send Secure Message" to open the "Send secure message" window
  3. Fill in the relevant fields
  4. Click "Send message"

Sending Secure Messages from the Communications Page

To send a Secure Message from the Communications page (or Communications subtab of a Matter or Client):

  1. Click the blue "Send secure message" button at the top right corner of the screen
  2. Fill in the relevant fields (Note: if you are in the sub of a Matter, the "Matter" field will be filled in automatically)
  3. Click "Send message"
