How to Apply a Credit to a Client to be held in the Operating Account

Objective:

  • How to add a deposit to a Matter
  • How to Apply Retainer Funds to the Operating Account
  • Adding a Prepayment transaction into Operating
  • How to apply funds from a Client Operating Account to a Bill
  • How to issue a client credit

Environment:

  • Clio Web App

Additional Information:

  • In order to keep the funds associated with the Client or Matter separately, avoid including additional Matter information if you'd like it applied to the Client
  • Credits held on account can be applied to Bills once generated and approved

Procedure:

  1. Go to the Contact/Matter where you would like to apply the funds
  2. Click the Transactions sub-tab
  3. Select the desired Account from the ledger dropdown
  4. Click the New Transaction button towards the top
  5. Enter the amount and any other relevant information 
  6. Click Record Transaction
