How to Update Taxes for Line Items on an Existing Bill

  • Clio Manage

Additional Information:

  • If you haven't generated your bill yet, please see this article on applying tax while you generate.
  • If you want to adjust the tax rate on your Bill, please see this article.
  • Please note, if existing bill has been Approved, you may not be able to edit it. You can instead void the bill and then generate a new one to remove the taxes from line items. 

Procedure:

To Bulk Update Taxes:

  1. Navigate to the Bill
  2. Select Edit
  3. Select either the All, Services, or Expenses button (or individually choose the items you would like to apply tax to)

  4. Check the box in the upper left of the table to check all filtered items (or check the boxes for specific entries individually)

  5. Select the Tax 1, Tax 2 or both buttons to apply or remove Tax 
  6. Click Save Invoice

To Update Line Item Taxes:

  1. Navigate to the Bill
  2. Select More Actions
  3. Select Edit
  4. Beside an item you would like to apply tax to, click on the "Yes" or "No" under the Tax 1 or Tax 2 columns and check or uncheck the box there.
  5. When you are done, click Save invoice.
