Why Do My EML Files have Equal Signs (=) In Them?

Question:

  • EML File formatting from Outlook Looks strange or off

Environment:

  • Clio Manage
  • Microsoft Outlook

Additional Information:

  • An equal sign followed by two hexadecimal digits is part of how EML files are encoded.

Answer:

When Clio saves an EML file (when filed via Maildrop or the Office 365 Add-in), it will always save the EML file without making any changes to it. In cases where the encoding is incorrect (from the original source emails), Clio will save EML files with those same errors.
