Clio Payments: Sending a Bill to your Client via Email for Payment

Currently Clio Payments is only available for credit card transactions into domestic U.S. bank accounts, and only in U.S. dollars.

Sharing a Bill via Email

In Clio, you can share bills with your clients via email. When you share a bill in the Draft or Pending Approval state, the bill will be emailed as a PDF. When you share a bill in the Awaiting Payment state, then the email will contain a link to a secure online payment form (as detailed below).

Unlike sharing documents via email link, the bill payment link will NOT expire. If you want to deactivate the link, you will have to stop sharing the bill.

To share a bill, click on the "Share" quick link or button.

You will now be provided with the additional "Share via email" option in the Share Bill window.

Below is a sample of what the email will look like with the "Pay bill" button.

The web page that the client is directed to has 3 very basic steps.

First, they will enter the amount to be paid.

Next, they will enter in their credit card information.

Finally, they will be asked to confirm their details and submit the payment.

Once the client sees the "payment is being processed" message, then they can close that window without interrupting the payment process.

As with payments entered into Clio, payments made by the client will also take 24 - 48 hours to process depending on the time of day that the payment was made.

Below is a sample of the confirmation email that the client will receive.

When the credit card payment has been successfully authorized, a notification email will be sent to all users with the "Billing" permission in your account.
