Note: Clio Payments is only available for credit card transactions into American or Canadian bank accounts, using American or Canadian dollars. Your Clio firm address must be set in the United States or Canada to use Clio Payments.
This article details how you can share a bill with your clients via email so that they can pay the bill with a credit card.

In Clio, you can send bills with your clients via email. When you send a bill in the Draft or Pending Approval state, the bill will be emailed as a PDF. When you send a bill in the Unpaid state, then the email will contain a link to a secure online payment form (as detailed below). A Clio Payments link from sending a bill will expire after 90 days.
To send a bill:
- Click on Billing from the main left-side menu
- Locate the Bill you would like to send and click on the Send button.
You will now be provided with the additional "Send via email" option in the Send Bill window.
Below is a sample of what the email will look like with the "Pay bill" button.
Finally, they will be asked to confirm their details and submit the payment.
Once the client sees the "Submitted" message, then they can close that window without interrupting the payment process.
As with payments entered into Clio, payments made by the client will also take 24 - 48 hours to process depending on the time of day that the payment was made.
Below is a sample of the confirmation email that the client will receive.
When the credit card payment has been successfully authorized, a notification email will be sent to users with the Permission level set for Clio Payments Notification Emails (Administrator, Billing or No one).
