Connecting Klyant to Clio

Note: Klyant is currently available in the EU only.

Once you have signed up for a Klyant subscription and have logged in, click on your firm name in the top right hand corner (a menu will appear) and click “My Apps”.

Under the Clio logo click “Link”. You will be asked to confirm that you wish to integrate Klyant with Clio.

You may be asked to sign in to Clio. You will then be asked to allow Klyant access to the data it requires from Clio to integrate.

When you have been redirected to Klyant you will be able to configure the integration to your requirements. When complete simply confirm the changes by clicking “Confirm Changes”.

You will see that the Clio logo has now appeared on your Klyant Home Page. Click on the Clio logo and select “Sync Latest Changes”. When it stops flashing the sync is complete. You can close this screen and continue to work within Klyant while this process is completing.

Using Klyant with Clio

Once you have connected your Clio account to Klyant, you will notice that a Clio logo has been added to the top of your Klyant Home Page.

Click the logo and select “Sync Latest Changes”, to commence bringing any new relevant data in Clio over to Klyant. While the synchronisation is taking place you can continue using Klyant. When the logo stops flashing the sync is complete. Progress can be checked by clicking the Clio logo at any time.

The integration provides you with numerous configuration settings.

You can choose whether to transfer all available data types or just that which you require. The data that can be transferred is as follows:

  • Client Name & Primary Contact Details
  • Matter Name
  • Matter/Practice Type
  • Trust/Client Account Transactions
  • Approved Bills
  • Bill Payments

The integration provides some other powerful functionality which is explained below:

Default Matter Type

Choose the matter type that should be entered (e.g. miscellaneous) when there is not a matter type assigned in Clio. Alternatively you can choose not to import a matter until a matter type has been assigned.

Default Client Account

Matters in Klyant require a default Client Bank Account to speed up data entry. Therefore you must choose which account you would like to use as the default account. Transactions for a different account than the default will still be assigned to the correct account during the sync.

Default Fee Nominal For New Matters

Klyant allows the user to assign a default fee nominal for a matter to speed up data entry. By selecting “Manual”, from the dropdown, bills transferred to Klyant from Clio will be assigned the default nominal for that matter providing the matter has been assigned one in Klyant. Alternatively you can select an income nominal from the dropdown to be used for all matters.

This very powerful function allows you to decide whether to treat expenses entered into Clio as an income account or outlay that has been spent out of the operating account that requires repayment.

Import Transactions Dated After

Choose from what date to import transactions.

Sync Log

The sync log is designed to put you in control of the data that is migrated from Clio to Klyant. You can view a list of all data that has been brought over and resolve any issues that have been flagged in the log. The log can be accessed by clicking the Clio icon and then clicking “View Log”.

You can switch between Klyant and Clio to resolve any issues by clicking on the hyperlinks for each application. The links bring you straight to the platform area you need to be in to correct the issue. Simply resolve the issue and carry out a sync.

Access Matter Ledger & Statement of Account Reports From Clio

The integration will insert custom field links into Clio for each matter so that you do not have to leave Clio to view a Matter Ledger Report or Statement of Account. Click on the link and you will be brought straight to the relevant report in Klyant.
