How Do I Share a Document Via Link Using Google Drive?

Objective:

  • Securely share my Documents using Google Documents
  • Send a token link to using Google Drive

Environment:

  • Google Drive

Additional Information:

If you have multiple files to share, you can upload them into a Folder in Google Drive, then share the folder.

After the intended recipient has confirmed that they have received and downloaded the shared files, it's recommended that you update Link sharing to say "OFF - Only specific people can access" so that people who are not the intended recipient can't locate the link and access the documents

Procedure:

  1. Upload a Document to Google Drive
  2. Right-click the uploaded Document
  3. Click Share
  4. Click Get sharable link
  5. Verify that Link sharing says "Anyone with the link can view"
  6. Click Copy Link
  7. Click Done
  8. Open a new email in your email program of choice
  9. Right-click in the email
  10. Click Paste
  11. Compose the email
  12. Send the email
