How Do Empty Merge Fields Populate on an Automated Document?

Objective:

  • What will happen when I generate a Document from a Template that has merge fields that were not filled out within Clio?

Environment:

  • Clio Manage

Additional Information:

Answer:

In most cases, an empty Merge Field will appear as a blank space. However, if the Merge Field is part of a subsection of a field group, then the empty field will appear as the original Merge Field code.

Example:

  • The field << Matters.StatuteOfLimitationsDate >> will appear as a space
  • However, the field << Matters.StatuteOfLimitationsDate.Month >> will appear as << Matters.StatuteOfLimitationsDate.Month >>
