How to Add a Percentage Based Markup to Individual Bills

Objective:

  • Use Clio's Tax feature to add a Markup to a bill

Environment:

  • Clio Manage

Additional Information:

While there is no built-in way to add a percentage mark up to a bill, you can get around this by using the Tax 1 field: 

Procedure:

First, set up your desired percentage in the Tax Field in Settings:

  1. Click on Settings
  2. Click on Billing
  3. Under Primary Tax, Name enter a name for the Mark Up as it will appear on an Invoice
  4. Under Primary Tax Rate enter the percentage of the Mark up
  5. Click Save Bill Settings

Generate a new bill with a mark up:

  1. Click Billing on the black ribbon
  2. Click New Bills
  3. Select the box beside the Matter/Client you wish to Bill
  4. Click the Generate button that appears at the top of the list
  5. Select the box beside Apply Tax
  6. Click Generate Bills

Or, add a mark up to an Existing Bill:

  1. Go to Edit the Bill
  2. Click the top Checkbox beside the Actions column
  3. Click Tax 1 to add tax to the bill
  4. Save Invoice
