Private Events from Outlook Syncing to Clio as Public

Issue:

  • Private events synced from Office 365 are visible on shared Calendar in Clio
  • Outlook Calendar
  • Duplicating Calendar
  • Visible on other users Calendars

Environment:

  • Clio Manage

Cause:

Clio's Calendar permission settings are Calendar-wide, rather than per event. As such, permissions for individual events in Outlook do not sync over to Clio. 

Resolution:

Option 1: Set your entire Calendar to Free/Busy so that no details display

  1. Go to Calendar
  2. Select Sharing
  3. Choose the appropriate Calendar
  4. Under Permission, select Free/Busy for each share
  5. Click Update Calendar

Option 2: Stop sharing the Calendar

  1. Go to Calendar
  2. Select Sharing
  3. Choose the appropriate Calendar
  4. Click Remove Permission for each share
  5. Click Update Calendar

Option 3: Create a separate Calendar in both Clio and Outlook for private events

  1. Create a new Calendar in Clio: How to Create a New Calendar
  2. Create a new Calendar in Outlook: Create additional calendars
  3. Sync the Calendars: Office 365 Business Standard or Enterprise: Syncing Calendars
