Manual Matter Number Field is Blank When Editing a Matter

Objective:

  • Edit Matter manual Numbering scheme
  • Empty manual Matter number field

Environment:

  • Clio Manage

Additional Information:

When you go into Edit Matter Screen, it is clearing Matter Number field when manual Matter numbering is set.

Answer:

There are two potential settings when creating a new Matter name: Custom or Manual. Custom means that a pre-determined named is always assigned to your Matters. Manual means that you must manually enter the Matter name every time you create a Matter.

If you previously had a Custom Matter name and updated it to Manual, Clio requires you to re-enter the name of the Matters that were previous Custom Matters. Once you update this information once, it will not require you to update the name again. This is the intended functionality of the program and is the result of the changes made to the Matter naming convention.
