How do I Change one Matter Number to be Higher Than Other Matter Numbers Without Affecting Future Matter Numbers?

Objective:

  • Can I change one Matter's Matter Number to be higher than others, without having the change impact future Matter Numbers? 

Environment:

  • Clio Manage

Additional Information:

Procedure:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Click Firm Preferences
  3. Click Matter Numbering
  4. Click open for the Matter Number Override box
  5. Type in the Matter Number you want to override 
  6. Type "1" in the New Matter Number field
  7. Click Update
  8. Note down the current Matter Numbering scheme (located in the white box on the right)
  9. Click the Select template drop-down menu
  10. Select Manual for each matter
  11. Click Update Settings
  12. Go to the Matter
  13. Click Edit matter
  14. Go to the Matter Number field
  15. Manually type the new Matter Number
  16. Click Save matter
  17. Go to back to Settings > Firm Preferences > Matter Numbering
  18. Open the Select template drop-down menu
  19. Select Standard
  20. Recreate your previous Matter Numbering Scheme
  21. Update Settings
