What does it Mean if a Contact is "Merged" when Syncing my Contacts with Google?

Objective:

  • Understand how the contact sync works
  • Avoid duplicate contacts
  • Ensure all of my contacts sync over to Clio or Google

Environment:

  • Clio Manage
  • Google Suite

Additional Information:

If the contact does not have an email address in both Clio and Google a new contact will be created as it doesn't meet the requirements for the contacts to be merged.

Answer:

When running the Google contact sync, if a contact has the same name and email address as a contact already in the other program. Instead of creating a duplicate contact, the sync will merge the two contacts together, adding any other information that exists on either program.
