Tutorial - Using Zapier to get Notified when a Clio Connect User Uploads a Document to your Clio Account

The Zapier integration is available to subscribers of our Boutique, and Elite plans.

You can upgrade to the Boutique or Elite plan in the app, or if you’re interested in seeing how this feature can work for your law firm feel free to contact us by email or give us a call at 1-888-858-2546 (choose option #1).

This tutorial will show you how you can use Zapier to get an email notification whenever a Clio Connect user uploads a file. For general information about getting started with Zapier, please see the Zapier Support article here.

Note: This is a multi-step Zap which will require a paid Zapier account.

Zapier has a template for this workflow here. If you have experience with Zapier, following that template should be enough for you to set up the Zap.

For detailed, step-by-step instructions, read on.

To begin:

  1. Go to the Zapier Clio Document Upload Notification template page
  2. Click Try it-get started free! (if you don't already have a paid Zapier account, you'll be prompted to sign up. You won't be able to create this Zap with a free account.)

The Zap builder is displayed. There are four steps to complete with this Zap:

We'll go through each of these, following the Zapier template in order.

  1. New document should be automatically selected as the trigger. Click Continue
  2. Click Connect an Account to connect your Clio account to Zapier, or select your account if you have already connected it to Zapier
  3. Click Save + Continue
  4. Zapier will choose a sample document from your account to test the Zap. Click Continue
  5. For your first Action in this Zap, "Find Person Contact" should be automatically selected. Click Continue
  6. Ensure your Clio account is selected and click Save + Continue
  7. Click Continue
  8. Zapier will test everything so far. So click Fetch & Continue. (Or click "Skip This Step" if you want)
  9. After the successful test, click Continue
  10. Next, we have to set up a basic filter. Click Continue
  11. Click Show Advanced Options
  12. In the left dropdown, select New Document. And then select Name
  13. In the right dropdown, select Exists
  14. Click Test & Continue
  15. After the successful test, click Continue
  16. For the final step, we'll set up an email notification for ourselves. "Send Outbound Email" should be automatically selected. Click Continue
  17. Enter your email (or a comma-separated list of up to five emails) and click Continue
  18. Click Send Test To Email by Zapier
  19. An example email will be sent to the email(s) you put in step 17. Click Finish

Your Zap is now complete! Zapier will check every five minutes to see if a new document has been uploaded to Clio Connect by any of your contacts. If so, you'll be sent an email notification. Just set it and forget it.

If you have any questions or issues with this workflow, please reach out to Clio support via chat, phone or email.
