Enabling and activating the Team Creator
To set up this integration, you need a subscription to a Microsoft 365 Business or Microsoft 365 Enterprise account and be an Administrator in both Microsoft 365 and Clio Manage. Also, the email address for your Microsoft 365 account must be the same email address used to log in to Clio Manage. Enabling this integration enables it for all users on your account.
- Navigate to your Settings
- Click on Apps
- Click the Microsoft tab
- Click Connect
- Sign in to Microsoft 365
- Authenticate Clio with Microsoft 365
Once connected to Microsoft Teams, you will have the option to create a team when creating a new Matter or editing an existing Matter. Those with permission to view the matter will automatically be added to the new team as long as the email address they use to log in to Clio Manage and Microsoft 365 is the same.
- From the Matters page, click New matter
- Check the box for Create a team for this matter in Microsoft Teams
- Once created, the Matter dashboard will display a link to the Microsoft Team created for the Matter.
- Clicking the link will take you to the team created for the Matter:

Who can access matter teams from Clio?
Anyone with permission to view a matter can access a Team from that matter.
Who owns the teams in Microsoft Teams?
The Administrator of the Microsoft 365 account who originally set up the integration will own the new teams regardless of who creates them in Clio.
Do I have to create a team when I create a new matter?
No.
Will you also automatically create channels for my matter team?
We’ll automatically create a “General” channel for each matter team, but you can add up to 200 channels per team if you’d like.
What happens to the team if I delete the matter in Clio?
Nothing. While we don’t recommend deleting teams, you can choose to archive or hide them in Teams.
Can I add more people to the teams in Teams?
Yes, but it will not change or affect their permissions in Clio.
If I remove someone from the matter in Clio, will they be removed from the team in Teams?
No. You will need to remove them in Teams separately.
Can I create a team for an existing matter in Clio?
Yes, you will see the option to do so in the Matter Dashboard.
What happens if I change the name of the matter in Clio?
You can still access the team from the matter dashboard, but the name of the team will not be automatically updated.
Will my Teams conversations be saved to Clio?
Not yet, but we’re working towards this functionality.
If I upload a document to Teams will it be saved in Clio?
No, the document will be saved to Sharepoint.
Why do the Clio and Microsoft 365 email addresses need to match for users to be added to new Teams?
This is the only way we can be sure that we’re adding the right people to the new teams.
Matter Dashboard for Teams
With the Matter Dashboard for Teams you can easily access your Clio matters without leaving Microsoft Teams. Check the status of your matter, scan recent Communications, and plan for upcoming events directly from the appropriate team or channel in Microsoft Teams.
Enabling the Matter Dashboard for Teams will add a new tab to the channel of your choice with a condensed version of the Matter Dashboard in Clio. Any matter that the User has permission to access can be displayed in the Dashboard and each member of the Channel in Teams will need to sign in to Clio to view the Dashboard.

FAQ
Enabling and activating the Matter Dashboard for Teams
To set up this integration, you need a subscription to a Microsoft 365 Business or Microsoft 365 Enterprise account and Clio Manage. From Teams, there are two ways to add the integration:
From a Channel:
- From the Channel in Teams that you would like to add the Matter Dashboard to, click the "+" icon at the top of the Channel next to the other tabs. From the "Add a tab" window, search for "Clio" and select the "Clio" app when it appears.
- Click "Connect" and login to Clio Manage.
- From the drop-down menu, select the matter that you want to display in the Dashboard. The Dashboard will now load in the new "Clio" tab at the top of your channel. You can access it any time by returning to the Clio tab.
From the Apps menu:
- From the main sidebar in Teams, select the "Apps" icon OR the "..." icon, search for "Clio" and select the app when it appears. If "Clio" does not appear, your Teams administrator may have restricted the use of Apps for your account.
- Select the Team or the Channel that you would like to view the Dashboard in. If you select a Team, the tab will be added to all the Channels in that Team. If you select a Channel, the Dashboard will only be displayed in that specific Channel.
- Once you've selected the Team or Channel, click "Connect" to login to Clio Manage.
- From the drop-down menu, select the matter that you want to display in the Dashboard. The Dashboard will now load in the new "Clio" tab at the top of your channel. You can access it any time by returning to the Clio tab.
Using the Matter Dashboard
The Matter Dashboard was built to give you quick access to the basic details of your matter including the most recent Notes, Communications, and Events. From the Dashboard, you can open the embedded chat and discuss the matter with other members of the channel or you can use the links provided to jump straight back into Clio.
The "View matter in Clio Manage" link will take you to the Matter Dashboard for that matter, while the "View" buttons on each of the cards will take you directly to that subtab within the matter. You can also click on the name of the Contact to jump to their contact card in Clio or click on their email address to start a new email to that contact.
At this time, you cannot edit or add new information to the matter from Teams.
