What is the migration timeline?
The standard migration timeline will take up to fifteen business days from start to finish; five to seven of these business days are dedicated to transforming the data so it can be migrated fully into Clio; the processing period is explained in more detail below. In some situations, this timeline may be extended when the migrations team has noticed inconsistencies that require clarification, or if you request to tidy up your data.
Your Clio migration specialist will work on a number of other migrations at the same time as yours. Due to the sensitive nature of the data we only handle one dataset at a time and data is processed on a first-in, first-out model. Clio is committed to delivering your migration in a maximum of five to seven business days, but it is important to understand that your specialist does not work on your data exclusively during this period. How does the migration team assist me with moving my data to Clio?
Your migration specialist will reach out and collect all the information we are able to export from your previous system unless you have chosen to self export. The data will then be transferred securely to Clio.
Once the data has been received your migrations specialist will then align your data to the relevant fields in Clio. If the field is not a standard Clio field then that data will be added to a custom field. Your migration specialist cannot clean your data. The way the data was added in your previous system is how it appears in Clio
After the data has been prepared for Clio we will then upload (import) the data into your account. Once all the data is uploaded (imported) you will be notified by your migration representative and will have three days to review your data
How should my data be formatted?
In order for data to be imported to Clio, the data must be in an Excel/CSV format and arranged like the data in the image below.
Can I perform the data export from my previous system myself?

Can I migrate my data or does someone at Clio need to do it?
Anyone can migrate their data to Clio using our templates which can be found in this article Migration Templates

Can I send Clio half my data now and another half at a later date
Clio offers a one-time migration process as this will ensure all your data is migrated at the same time and ensure the cleanest data transition.

After I send my data to Clio what happens?
Once your data is sent to your migrations specialist your count down to completion starts. While you wait Clio will perform a number of steps
- Review your data and make any required updates required for successful import (e.g changing date format)
- Your data will be processed by your specialist to ensure your data is ready for your new Clio Account
- Your data will be imported on or before the designated timeline based on your migration type.
- If we encounter any errors during the data upload (import) we will communicate with you regarding the next best steps
How do I check in on my Migration?
After Clio receives your data we recommend only checking in with your migration specialist after the dedicated processing time has passed.
For an accelerated migration we recommend checking in after two full business days have passed from when your data is initially sent to Clio. If your migration is an Assisted Migration we recommend checking in after five full business days after the data is received.

When will the Import process start?
Your data import will begin once your migration specialist has been granted access to your Clio Account. This access request will be sent from Clio to the email address used to sign into your Clio Account. We are unable to send this request to any other email other than the one assigned to your Clio Account for security reasons
What do I do after the Import is complete?
After the import is complete all the data that was imported into your account must be reviewed. This article will walk you through the process of reviewing the data that was imported into your new Clio Account.
You have three business days from the day of import to review your data and get back to your migrations specialist with any requested changes. If we do not hear back from you in the three days then Clio takes this as confirmation the data was correctly imported and no changes are required.
Can I set up my Contacts/Calendar Syncs?
Once the migration is completed you can set up your contact and calendar syncs in Clio. We strongly advise not setting any syncs up prior to the completion of your migration as it may cause duplicate events/contacts to be in your Clio account which will need to be manually deleted by a member of the firm.

How long does the Clio Data Migration Team keep my Data?
Our Data Migration Team will delete your held data 90 days after your migration is completed
