Clio for Microsoft Teams Integration: Matter Dashboard for Teams

With the Matter Dashboard for Teams, you can easily access your Clio matters without leaving Microsoft Teams. Check the status of your matter, scan recent Communications, and plan for upcoming events directly from the appropriate team or channel in Microsoft Teams.

Enabling the Matter Dashboard for Teams will add a new tab to the channel of your choice with a condensed version of the Matter Dashboard in Clio. Any matter that the User has permission to access can be displayed in the Dashboard and each member of the Channel in Teams will need to sign in to Clio to view the Dashboard.

Enabling and activating the Matter Dashboard for Teams

To set up this integration, you need a subscription to a Microsoft 365 Business or Microsoft 365 Enterprise account and Clio Manage. From Teams, there are two ways to add the integration:

From a Channel:

  1. From the Channel in Teams that you would like to add the Matter Dashboard to, click the "+" icon at the top of the Channel next to the other tabs. From the "Add a tab" window, search for "Clio" and select the "Clio" app when it appears.Screen_Shot_2020-09-24_at_10.52.17_AM.png
  2. Click "Connect" and login to Clio Manage.
  3. From the drop-down menu, select the matter that you want to display in the Dashboard. The Dashboard will now load in the new "Clio" tab at the top of your channel. You can access it any time by returning to the Clio tab. Screen_Shot_2020-09-24_at_11.43.23_AM.png

From the Apps menu:

  1. From the main sidebar in Teams, select the "Apps" icon OR the "..." icon, search for "Clio" and select the app when it appears. If "Clio" does not appear, your Teams administrator may have restricted the use of Apps for your account.
  2. Select the Team or the Channel that you would like to view the Dashboard in. If you select a Team, the tab will be added to all the Channels in that Team. If you select a Channel, the Dashboard will only be displayed in that specific Channel. Screen_Shot_2020-09-24_at_11.48.14_AM.png

  4. From the drop-down menu, select the matter that you want to display in the Dashboard. The Dashboard will now load in the new "Clio" tab at the top of your channel. You can access it any time by returning to the Clio tab. Screen_Shot_2020-09-24_at_11.43.41_AM.png

Using the Matter Dashboard

The Matter Dashboard was built to give you quick access to the basic details of your matter including the most recent Notes, Communications, and Events. From the Dashboard, you can open the embedded chat and discuss the matter with other members of the channel or you can use the links provided to jump straight back into Clio.

The "View matter in Clio Manage" link will take you to the Matter Dashboard for that matter, while the "View" buttons on each of the cards will take you directly to that subtab within the matter. You can also click on the name of the Contact to jump to their contact card in Clio or click on their email address to start a new email to that contact.

At this time, you cannot edit or add new information to the matter from Teams.

Disconnecting the Matter Dashboard or Selecting a Different Matter

To select a different matter to display in the Dashboard:

  1. Click on the down arrow next to "View matter in Clio Manage"
  2. Click "Select another matter"
  3. Choose the new matter you would like to display in the Dashboard

To sign out of the Dashboard:

  1. Select "Sign out of Clio in Teams" from the bottom left corner of the Dashboard

To remove the tab from the Channel:

  1. Click the down arrow next to the "Clio" tab at the top of the screen
  2. Select "Remove"

FAQ

Who can set up the new integration and add it to a team or channel?

Any User that has permission to add apps in Teams can add the "Clio" app to a team or channel in Teams.

What matters can be viewed in the Matter Dashboard?

The User can only select and view matters in the Matter Dashboard that they have permission to view and access in Clio. This may mean that some members of the Channel may not be able to view the Dashboard if it was configured for a matter that they do not have permission to access in Clio.

Can I edit or add information to the Matter Dashboard in Teams?

No, at this time the Dashboard is "Read Only" and you will need to navigate to Clio Manage to edit the matter or add new information.

What happens if I update the matter in Clio?

The Matter Dashboard in Teams will display those changes, though they make take a minute to appear.

Can I add other information like Tasks or Billing to the Dashboard?

Not at this time.

Do I have to be using the Team Creator to use the Matter Dashboard?

No, you can use the two features together or separately. If you prefer to use a different team/channel structure than the Team Creator, you can still add the Matter Dashboard to the teams or channels of your choice.

What happens to the Matter Dashboard if I delete the matter in Clio?

The Dashboard will display an error and you will need to select an alternate matter.

Why can't I find the "Clio" app in the list of Teams apps?

Your Teams Administrator may have restricted the use of apps for your account.
