Why is My Matter Dashboard Outstanding Balance Showing Negative Balance?

Issue:

  • Outstanding balance on a matter's Dashboard is negative

Environment:

  • Clio Manage

Additional Information:

  • n/a

Cause:

One of the matters on a multi-matter invoice is overpaid.

Resolution:

  1. Generate Billing History report for the client with the negative balance matter
  2. On the report, find the matter with the negative Balance column total
  3. Click the invoice # under the Invoice # column
  4. Remove payments from the bill
  5. Re-apply the payments, making sure that the matter is not overpaid
  6. Check the matter Dashboard's balance to make sure that it is positive now
