Why Are There Extra Documents After Uploading A Folder To Clio?

Issue:

  • Extra documents or files after uploading a folder
  • Mysterious files within a folder
  • File with a ~$ has appeared in Clio Documents

Environment:

  • Clio Manage

Additional Information:

  • A file that starts with ~$ is typically a temporary file created in Windows. These files may be hidden or possibly a system file.

Cause:

The folder that was uploaded to Clio may have contained hidden or system files or folders. These files, while hidden to you, will still be uploaded to Clio

Resolution:

To view hidden files and folders in Windows:

  1. In File Explorer click the View tab
  2. Check the checkbox labeled "Hidden items"

To view Windows System files:

  1. In File Explorer click the View tab
  2. Click Options
  3. Within "Folder Options" click the View tab
  4. Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  5. Hit OK

To view Hidden files and folders in MacOS:

  1. Open Finder
  2. Hit CMD + Shift + . (period key)
